James and I talked about music again. I was surprised that he's familiar with Japanese musicians ( better than me ). It's always fun to talk with someone who is a music lover! |

Thank you for another great lesson, Sadie. I had a free-conversation class with Sadie today. We started off with a topic about earthquakes: How did we feel about the one that happened last week, what we have done to be prepared for another one, my story about the Great East Japan Earthquake, etc. And then, we moved on to the pros and cons of introducing a four-day workweek system, which I set as a monthly theme for intensive phrase learning myself. Most of our arguments were on the negative side of the system, and I could get lots of expressions out of our conversation: something felt off, on the surface, meritocracy, and so on. She is always a delight to talk with, and I really appreciate it because just talking with her cheered me up with the busyness of the end of the fiscal year. |

We mainly talked about the earthquake which devastated Northern East Japan. Fortunately it didn't affect the area we live, but there was bullet train which detailed and there were a few tremors. It reminded me the earthquake in 2011. We also talked about the relationship between Russia and Ukraine. Even though, China, Russia, Britain, the United States and France have agreed to avoid a further spread of nuclear arms, Russia invaded Ukraine. |

In today's lesson, I learned the nuance and specific situations the words can be used. Some of the words are often seen in the article these days, like "flee" and "evacuate". Mark also taught me about reduction in pronunciation to speak naturally. Thanks, and until next time! |

We practiced IELTS speaking. Today's topic was traveling. First, we talked about my trip to the U.S. - several years ago, I visited the Smithsonian Museum. If I remember it correctly, there are two parts of the museum: airplane and nature. Then we discussed the negative impact caused by international tourists who visit Japan - before the COVID-19 pandemic, the gradual increase of foreigners sometimes bothered local people. I appreciate your correction, Xandra! |
